General

The JAKŪ-ATB Coupling System is a pneumatically actuated electrically controlled articulated tug-barge connecting system.

The coupling action is controlled from a control panel on the vessel's bridge. The coupling action can also be controlled from the local control panel in the coupler unit compartment.

One person can at the same time steer the vessel and control the coupling action.

The efficiency and the reasonable cost of the coupling device are based on its simple construction. There are also several other benefits of this system, e.g. simple control, lighter hull structures and exclusion of special foundations and separate hydraulic power-pack.

Scope of Delivery

Application Design

The scope of supply includes the required application design, which is started already in the quotation phase and is based on inquiry data. For both the tug and the barge classification drawings for both the hull construction and the installation of the JAK system are provided. A strength analysis utilizing finite element calculations are also performed.

Hardware

The following equipment is included in a typical scope of supply:

Coupler Units, 2 pcs
Guide & Socket Plate Assembly, 2 pcs
Pneumatic Valve Panel
Local Control Box
Remote Control Box

Instructions

Instructions for both how to install the JAK-system and for how to operate it are of course also included in the scope of supply.

Additional Services

Upon request by the shipyard detailed design including workshop drawings can also be provided, but they are normally not included in the scope of supply.

Upon request Beacon Finland can provide installation supervision on site by one of the engineers.

Existing tugs and barges needs to be control measured as it is not possible to rely on old, original drawings, which may or may not have been updated to correspond to the actual vessel.

Training of the operation of the unit for the ship's personnel is also available upon request.
